There is a common and often agreed upon idea that EXO's rappers suck.
Well let's put it to the test and see if they really suck.
Today's Edition is Chanyeol!
I will do this in an unbiased point of view regardless of who I am. (Everything is based on my opinion) *prays to God that people won't look at her sig*
Now lets get this show on the road[
Rappers of EXO:
Known rappers of EXO are Chanyeol, Kai, and Sehun.
Many of you will say "But what about Xuimin and Lay?" Well Xuimin and Lay are more into the vocal group nowadays, so I decided not to include them into this.
However today we will focus on Chanyeol. *cue the sounds of seals singing in the distance*
First Evaluation: Chanyeol
Chanyeol tends to have a good flow when it comes to EXO's songs. Very smooth and easy on the hears. His best raps are often in very mellow and sad songs like this one.
Example: EXO's Baby Don't Cry. Around 2:12
This is one of my favorite raps of his mostly because his deep voice sounds so nice and fits well with the song. It's not rough and it has good flow. What would have ruined it was if he all of a sudden became turnt and starting busting out the things we saw on that show that must not be named, but thankfully his flow and tone was good. not like the UPR2. sorry not sorry
One live rap that I like of his was this. Around 0:40
Considering this was live, I thought he was pretty good. His flow was good and he didn't have random moments of messing up the tone of the song. Tone was consistent. Flow was consistent. There was no moment where he would try to jam a bunch of words into a beat. like other times This video gave me hope that one day, just one day we might see a Chanyeol solo rap song. that wish seems unrealistic
However, every rapper has their bad days. I didn't want to put up this video, but unfortunately for research purposes I have to. *cries* For the faint hearted EXO-L's please don't look at this video. Around 1:25
Everything about this was cringe worthy for me. His voice was really rough and his gestures on stage were a bit awkward. Probably because he was too turnt or maybe he was nervous? We don't know, but for me this was a performance I did not like. Many say that he was under the pressure of trying to prove his worth he may have overdone it, but I wished he didn't use such lyrics that is often way too common. All in all this was not his best performance. fight me.
It's only fair that I add a song that I did not like him rapping in.
Example: EXO's First Love. Around 2:40
This. This. THIS. Maybe because the song was not fit for a rap or what, but I really didn't like his rap in here and it turned off the mood of the song for me. not to mention that 'baby baby' at the end
It was not smooth and it was bumpy. When it comes to rappers, flow and smoothness is a must. You can't be rapping totally different ways right after each other. I feel like in this song the lyrics just didn't go with the beat, but hey. You gotta do what you gotta do.
I've come to the conclusion that when he isn't under pressure and wanting to prove himself, he's pretty good. However when he get's too much into the moment his rap doesn't turn out so well. What are your thoughts??? When does he sound the best and when does he sound the worst? Post your thoughts! ^_^
Let's end on a good note. Have some Minho.
Excuse the sig below. *cries*
